    RPGs often allow to wear two different accessories simultaneously or to hold a sword in each hand. Up to now, we have to specify the specific hand the weapon is for. Better would be, if we could name our equipment slots like “left hand” and “right hand” and add e. g. the type “hands” for each slot. Imagine our hero is an octopus. With a group like “hands” or “tentacles” we could have eight tentacles and still no need to have eight different sword types for each tentacle.

    BTW:
    Imagine, an evil magician who turns our hero into an octopus. Our hero has now eight tentacles instead of two arms. He can hold eight swords now but maybe is not able to wear boots anymore. If equipment slots have groups, we can prevent an octopus from equipping boots. We also should not only be able to change the hero’s appearance but the equipment slots at runtime too. With this, the hero e. g. could be changed “really” into an octopus including the capability to wield eight swords at runtime.

    Furthermore, some equipment should be able to block more than one equipment slot. Imagine the “giant axe”, which can be wield only when using both hands. The hero is not able to also wear a shield as long he wields this axe. Currently, we cannot create such an axe. If we could make an item to block more than one equipment slot a “giant axe” would be possible to create.
